CNC Animal Ambassadors - Eastern Box Turtle

The three Eastern Box Turtles at Chattanooga Nature Center came from UTC Wildlife rehab in January 2001 and November 2003. There are two females and one male. Two of the three were hit by cars and suffered irreparable shell damage that denies them the ability to fully retract inside to escape predators. The third turtle suffers from spinal trauma and mild paralysis in his rear from being hit by a car.

They enjoy eating brightly colored fruits and vegetables along with insects two days a week in the spring and summer months. They can be seen basking in the warmth of their overhead lamp, taking a nice soak in their water dish, or “hiding” in their turtle cave inside the CNC Visitor Center.
