You may not think of tending to the garden as exercise… until you’re done. As the aches and pains of an unconditioned body begin to set in, you remember that gardening is as much about exercise as it is cultivation of beautiful plants.

Sundays at 3:30 pm at the Chattanooga Nature Center

Beginning March 8

Strengthening the core is critical to prevent back strain. Shoulder and neck stretches and gentle backbends counteract all the bending over and forward bends involved in gardening. Hands and fingers need movement to keep them functioning smoothly. Proper alignment in yoga poses carries over into gardening tasks to keep the body safe. This yoga class is good for every body. If you desire to prepare your body for gardening work or to enjoy nature more fully, yoga can enhance your experience.

Yoga for Gardeners is a donation-based class with proceeds dedicated toward the purchase of plants and gardening supplies for the Nature Center. The suggested price is $90 for a six-week session but any amount you can give will be appreciated. You may drop in and take one class, but to learn the poses correctly and the modifications for your body, a series of classes is highly recommended. Cecilia Keefer has been teaching yoga since 1992 with an emphasis on safety and individuality.

For reservations or questions please call Cecilia Keefer, 423-667-4906, or leave a message for her at the Nature Center, 423-821-1160.
