What to Do If..... Wildlife Protection and Call ListIf you find a baby animal, it is best to locate the nest and
place the baby back in or around the nest. An animal mother is the
best caregiver and will return to the baby even if you have touched
the baby. If the mother does not return, then a home rehabilitator should be contacted (see the list below). If you find an injured or displaced baby or adult animal, do not attempt to give food or water and contact a local home rehabilitator as soon as possible (see list below). Keep the animal in box with towels in a quiet, dark place away from people and pets. In the states of Tennessee and Georgia, all birds (from a songbird to an eagle) are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1973. No nest, eggs or bird may be moved, destroyed are harmed in any way. It is illegal in Tennessee to relocate or keep as a pet any wild
animal (including raccoons which are a rabies vector species and may
pose a health threat). Only licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators are
able to keep wild animals for rehabilitation. WILDLIFE CALL LIST current as of 01/2006Any injured, displaced or orphaned wildlife:
Hamilton County -It is illegal to relocate any wild animal or keep any wild animal as a pet in Tennessee
Georgia Counties –It is illegal to relocate any wild animal or keep any wild animal as a pet in Georgia
